Aircelle Invests in 2nd Actiris350 portable CMM for Measuring Aircraft Engine Nacelles 08-01-2007
One of the worlds top producers of nacelles for commercial aircraft engines, Aircelle, has selected Actiris350 portable CMM for product verification at its new plant in Morocco based on the demonstrated successof the portable CMM in its two French plants.

This highly successful division of an international industrial group has put its faith in ActiCM for its inspection requirements after proving the Actiris350 portable CMM system, and has now implemented 2 systems, 1 for its new factory of Morocco and 1 for its factory at Plaisir in France.
The factory of Meudon, France, also continues to draw upon ActiCM's portable inspection services, including an order for 3 months measurement program onsite.
AIRCELLE is one of the worlds top two producers of nacelles for commercial aircraft engines. It designs, produces and integrates complete nacelle systems, as well as supplying maintenance, repair and overhaul services to users.
Implementation of Actiris350 at this highly successful branch of the large SAFRAN group is a testament to the tremendous advantages offered by the Actiris portable CMM for efficiently measuring large complex three-dimensional components in a production facility.
The parts measured by Actiris350 in these factories range in size up to 2.5m by 2m and have a precision requirement of +/- 0.075mm.
Previously, the company used bridge type CMMs to measure their parts. The problems with this process were the time taken up by the CMM inspection and the need for special fixed infrastructure. Further, they could probe only a few points per minute to control the part.
Actiris350 provided many decisive advantages. Firstly, by implementing this portable CMM technology they didn't need to sink a large investment in specialised infrastructure. In addition, it provided greatly enhanced capabilities. The system is able to probe thousands of surface points within minutes; the part can be measured anywhere in the workshop, and they can move the part during measurement to easily reach all its features.
In the example of one large nacelle component, inspection time was reduced from 2 hours to 30 minutes using Actiris350. At the same time, more than 1000 inspection points are able to be taken where the previous process provided only 130 inspection points to be reported in the 2 hour cycle.
On another component, inspection time in comparison to an articulated arm portable CMM was reduced by 4 hours by implementing Actiris350. The system also very efficiently provided excellent data integrity by the measurement of both faces of the component w.r.t. a single dynamic referential datum that is automatically tracked by the system during all measurements.
